Speaking – To convey thoughts, opinions, or emotions orally, to express yourself.
My rationale is built on the premise that to be a better public speaker, one needs to feel free from the fear of the act itself ; and the more experience at it, the better.
America – The land of freedom
Most modern Americans can trace their roots to their immigrant ancestors, who came to America to be free.
The immigrants were seeking freedom from religious persecution, economic troubles, political oppression, famines. Others who were brought in forcefully (as slaves or deported criminals), stayed on even after they were freed.
America’s policies throughout time have been democratic and have encouraged immigration (barring recent years).
India – The land of culture and society
India, on the other hand, has always been bound by culture and traditions. (I am not labeling this as good or bad. It just is.) Each person’s value was as estimated in the eyes of society.
Our inherent closeness to our family and friends has meant that almost everything we generally do or say takes a second thought to think about how it will be perceived in society.
We look, and rarely leap.
Even our freedom movement was driven by rebelutionary individuals rather than the masses. We fought for freedom from the English oppression, to go back to our culture and traditions.
America – Flexible, Fostering independent thinking. Historically, no of opportunities > no of people.
America’s education system encourages students to choose their subjects right from high school. It also happens to be a system designed to boost self-esteem in classes. (Although getting everyone to pass in school lowers standards in hig-school and so on, that’s not the focus of our reasoning.)
An effect of this choice for students is that many opt out of mathematics (which builds a foundation for logical thinking), and as a result Americans tend to do and say impulsively, rather than rationally.
This system encourages and demands independent thinking and ability to express opinions. Even relationships with professors are engaging, almost as if they are equals.
India – Methodical, Herd mentality. Historically, no of people > no of opportunities.
In India, the education and social system is hard on students. If you dont perform (which is largely dependent on how well you memorize stuff), you are labelled stupid and looked down upon. This memorization approach does not recognize or encourage independent thinking.
Classroom discussions are conspicuous by their absence. Even teachers are treated as Gurus with respect, raising barriers to open and engaging communication. (That teachers tend to use their dictatorial powers to harm students who oppose them does not help either.)
Effectively, Indians tend to be deprived of a platform to express their views.
As a result of these, Americans are better speakers than Indians.
This post if guilty of generalization (of course).

I fell in love with designing interiors as a young child when I would decorated my Barbie Dream House to give it a bit more pizzazz than the plastic furniture that was included. I would spend hours after school making curtains from old clothes and constructing sofas and beds out of scrap pieces of wood.
Designing interiors is as natural to me as breathing. As a child I didn't realize that this was a gift or a natural ability, because I thought everybody felt like I did about Design. It wasn't until I was about 18 and I moved into my first apartment that I recall having friends over for the first time and them telling me they were impressed with how I decorated. There was one friend who's parents were doctors and he said, ”wow, your style is great and better than anything I've seen, even in my own house”.
Over the years I realized that having style has nothing to do with how much money you have. I have been in homes of some very wealthy people and realized that they had no idea how to decorate. Most of them were furnishing their homes with costly items, but there was no cohesiveness.
Today, I am going to help those of you who are designed challenged and have no idea what your design style is by giving you a Beginners Guide on how to discover your own style.
1. What is your favorite Color? – Think about what colors you love or love to wear. Have you got a mental picture in your mind yet? Well, those are the same colors that can be used in decorating your home. For instance, I love blues and pinks and although I haven't painted my walls pink, I have use that color as an accent in my pillows, carpets or even art work.
2. Think of Design as an Extension of Yourself – I love so many styles that I tend to mix it up a bit, but if you're beginning, just stick with the basics for now. Consider what kinds of fabrics you like or that make you feel good. Perhaps you're a man and you love the look and feel of a good pinstripe wool suite, then this would be a look that you would love in your furniture choices as well. Maybe you're a woman who loves the feel and elegance of silk, then why not incorporate that into a sofa or chair in your home. Design style is simply an extension of who you are and what you like.
3. Just Do it! – Sometimes in order to do something that's out of our comfort zone the thing you have to do is what Nike says and that's, Just Do it! Why not start small and begin with a guest bedroom or even a bath and start by picking out your color and then your fabrics and just go for it. If you start small and don't like it you can always change it with out a major reconstruction.
4. Buy Quality – Even if you are not financially able to go out there and purchase a $10,000.00 sofa at this point in your life, always go for quality over quantity. Although, I find that most people want to furnish their homes in a day, it's better to live with your space first for a little while and get a feel for what you really want. I recall the first big ticket item I purchased for one of my homes was a sectional sofa that I instantly fell in love with on the showroom floor. The sofa was made of suede, so I was concerned that it would not wear well, but over the years it just got better and even softer. So don't be afraid to commit to quality because it will last for years and only look better with age.
5. Do some Research – If you are really serious about finding your own personal Interior Design Style, why not pick up some magazines and make a note of the styles that you find yourself drawn to. For instance I love French Country, Contemporary, Traditional and even a little Ethnic every now and again. For beginners, I would suggest you choose one style and design your room around that era. Once you get comfortable with the art of design, then you can get a little more creative and incorporate other styles into your décor.
Start small and work your way up from there and in no time at all, you'll discover your very own Interior Design Style.
Many people are quite focused on Myspace as a site where children go to post profiles, make friends, and possibly encounter danger. Adults often use Myspace as a place to lure children away from their homes and attempt to abuse them. For this reason, perhaps the spotlight shines too bright on Myspace.com and not enough on other sites that pose as a potential hazard for young eyes. Even though Myspace is the most popular way to connect to others in a community, it is not the only way possible.
For the uninformed, www.craigslist.com is one of those websites that most adults probably cannot live without once it has been discovered. Craigslist does very little in the way of advertising, so word of mouth is the largest way that the site has gained its large popularity. In essence, it is a huge garage sale and classified ad section in which you can find everything: including the kitchen sink. Recently I used Craigslist in my local area to look for a possible sofa sectional for the living room (alas, to no avail). But the possibilities are literally limitless and a link exists for every service one can imagine. Homes can be swapped, furniture from a neighbor a town away can be purchased, and community activities are announced. So what exactly can the harm be for children to be initiated to this site, you ask?
Craigslist.com has a darker and even an ominous side. While adults can use this site as a free and easy personals ”pick-up” spot, there exists no real monitoring to make sure that children are not attempting the same thing. This site can represent a widespread breeding ground for rebellious children intentionally trying to meet with much older adults. Is the lady you have been communicating through Craigslist's personals section really a 32 year old mother of two? Or is she a high school teenager of 16? Possibly worse, It also welcomes the complete opposite scenario: Pedophiles maintaining a sick game plan with the end result being a sexual encounter with a child. Is your 14 year old daughter attempting to have relations with a 40 year old man two towns away?
Borderline legal services are also up for grabs at Craigslist.com, putting children again in the way of possible danger. One such click-able feature announces ”erotic,” where the possibility for sexual encounters for any two individuals, adult or not, should raise a red flag for parents. Is your daughter on a live web-cam, being advertised on Craigslist as a form of adult entertainment? These possibilities should serve as a warning to parents. And also know this: Chances are quite large that your son or daughter knows this site quite well. Craigslist rates as #7 for English language web pages, only behind major search engines like Yahoo and ultra-popular profile and video pages like Youtube and Myspace.
So what can a parent do as a form of protecting their young ones from Craigslist.com? The answers are quite simple, but often overlooked.
1.) Keep the Computer in the Living Room
Monitoring what a young child is doing online is of utmost importance. This does not mean watching over your child's shoulder, but being in the same room will prevent curious children from partaking in any adult activities.
2.) Know the Lingo of the Internet
If a child has already began an Internet relationship through Craigslist and have taken their activities through AIM or Yahoo messenger, knowing what certain acronyms mean can save their lives in the long run. Have you seen your son or daughter type ”POS”? (And no…it does not mean ”Piece of Shit,” which I thought was the case when I first saw it.) It means ”Parent over Shoulder,” and this is a sure way of knowing that your child is chatting with someone he or she should not. Similarly, ”LMIRL” represents a shortened version of ”Let's meet in real life.” Again, in reflecting on a parents proximity to a child when they are on a computer, it is wise to have the computer stationed in a main room with lots of traffic in a house. Other Internet acronyms can be looked up at www.netlingo.com.
3.) Block Craigslist.com
A parent must be wise about Internet usage by a minor, and if sites like www.myspace.com have been blocked, Craigslist.com should also be a candidate. Mozilla Firefox has a program to download on their main page called Blocksite. It is fairly self-explanatory and easy to use, even for the technologically clueless. Internet explorer has a similar option accessible through their Tools and Options drop-down list.
Again, let it be known that I am not here to bad-mouth www.craigslist.com. This site serves a huge purpose for millions of individuals like myself. It is quite possibly the world's largest flea market. However, with the good comes the bad. The site remains largely unmonitored, and for that reason, preventive measures to keep children safe must be initiated by the parent.
For Janesville, Wis. resident Paula Ciebell, the choice for children's beds was doubly challenging. Paula is the mother of identical twin boys, Trevor and Justin, age 5.
”We took buying beds almost too seriously,” Paula said. ”It turned out to be a huge thing for our kids. We never switched to toddler beds because I did not want to give them access to getting out of bed alone at a young age. I must have missed the optimum time for doing it, though, because then they refused. They would not give up their cribs.”
As the little ones' fourth birthday approached, Paula and her husband, Tony, tried to ease them into the idea of getting ”big-boy” beds by shopping around.
”They still refused, however, and they did not get beds until Christmas after they turned 4,” Paula said.
Experts at keepkidshealthy.com, a pediatrician's guide to children's health and safety, said moving a child to a bed can be stressful for many children, citing the process ”as a significant milestone in their development.”
Involving the children in picking out the new bed and picking out new bedding was another recommendation from keepkidshealthy.com.
Paula and her family did just that.
”The kids loved being a part of the shopping experience,” Paula said. ”After shopping many, many stores, they discovered Verlo Mattress Factory Stores to be their favorite place. They loved that the factory was attached, and they were excited to have the beds made just for them.”
Paula said that Verlo's custom-crafted beds fit their budget as well as the boys' active lifestyles.
”These beds are very durable,” Paula said. ”They flopped around on the demo beds and were happy to pick out their own.”
Verlo Mattress Factory Stores of Janesville sleep expert and owner Kathleen Peardon said moving a child from a crib to a bed can be a very traumatic experience and agreed that involving children in the shopping process gives them a sense of independence. Peardon also cited the importance of a mattress in helping children obtain their much-needed ZZZZs.
”Handing down an old mattress to a child isn't a good idea,” Peardon said. ”Because mattresses wear out over time, it's important to maximize your child's chances of restful sleep by making sure he or she is sleeping on a mattress that is comfortable and supportive enough in order to fall asleep, stay asleep and wake up refreshed.”
Needless to say, the Ciebell household is sleeping peacefully these days. ”We never had a restless night with the transition. It was wonderful!” She added that the monumental moment of buying new beds sticks with them.
”The boys still love driving past the local Verlo store and pointing out every Verlo truck on the road,” Paula said. ”They also love to relay the story to other kids and their friends, especially the young ones who are still in a crib or toddler bed.”
To bring sweet slumber to your household, try these other tips for easing the transition to a bed:• Putting the new bed in the child's room for a few months to help him or her get used to it.• Start the child's bedtime routine in the new bed and then, if the child wants, move him or her to the crib, when the child is finally ready to go to sleep.• Let the child take as many daytime naps in the new bed.• Take as many things from the child's crib and continue to use them in the new bed as part of the bedtime routine.• Let the child sleep on the crib mattress on the floor for a few nights.• Move the new bed into the position in the room that the
Printing remains a fundamental part of any business, irrespective of its size. While abundance in the number of printing services suppliers leave you spoilt for options, it also poses a challenge as to how to select the best printing company that fits the bill for your specific requirements.
The knowledge of your own printing needs and also of the capacity of the printing company to cater to those needs will always help in settling on a good vendor. Different companies have different needs, and only after careful consideration can you select which printing company will be able to do the job for you.
In terms of the printing operation itself, there are many aspects that you might want to query the printing company about,. It makes good sense to take stock of significant things like colour richness in the end product, the technology that the vendor employs for printing, the condition of the machinery and so on. Someone who is new to the printing market can easily get bemused with the vast variety of factors involved in the process. Thus, looking at a company\’s previous assignments and talking to some of its customers can be a great way to know about the company. The veracity of the company\’s promises can be estimated through this process.
A good printing company would not be averse to open communication, thus enabling a positive working relationship. A customer must be assured of technical support, as that will allow a more scrupulous adherence to your requirements, and will also tell you about what to expect.
Pricing is the last but perhaps the most important factor to consider while searching for printing services. The industry is quite competitive, and if your job size is large enough, do not hesitate in hammering out a better price.

Print medium even today is a very sought after mode of spreading information to a vast range of people. With the passage of time the printing services sector has grown immensely and has reached its present form of a diversified industry. Today it can fulfil almost any need of the customers related to printing and its ancillary requirements.
Bulk printing services first originated somewhere around the–00\’s when Gutenberg invented the first printing press and the whole concept of relief printing was developed. In relief printing the printed impression appears elevated from the base, just as it exists in a rubber stamp. Relief printing is scarcely in use these days, though there are still some cases where it is used.
Technology has always been a motivating factor behind changes in printing processes that have been adopted down the years. Modern printing techniques are quite diverse and have a range of uses. The mind-boggling diversity of available choices in printing methods in fact greatly confuses the clients.
Of all printing techniques in the market today, offset printing tops the list in popularity. In this technique, limited ink is used to print the matter, which is first applied on metal plates and is then transferred onto paper. This cheap and quick technique of printing is highly favoured and used when mass printing is required.
Development in printing technology has also given birth to other printing methods like thermal printing, that involves heating of coated thermal paper, and electrostatic printing, that is akin to photocopying.
However, the newest innovation in printing technology is digital printing. As the name indicates, in this method, images are created on a computer, which are then checked for accuracy and are finally printed. This mode is fast and error free, but is appropriate most of the times for limited prints. The facility of customized printing with this technique has led to computer form printing, where a standard format is used to print items like bills and invoices whose contents vary according to the different needs of each print.
The advent of the internet in printing has been another revolutionary transformation for the industry. Printing companies have their own websites that clients can use from right inside their homes or offices and place orders after having a look at online printing samples.
Technological advancements have always brought about important positive changes in printing methods and the quality of the output. The best part about this trend is that it will stay on track well into the future and keep improving the quality and efficiency of printing services.

The news this past week that Google would cease the censorship of its search results in China, and could well be forced to entirely halt operations in the country as a result, is quite simply one of the most interesting stories to come along in the tech sphere in a long time. The reality is that it’s not just a tech story; it spills into the world of international politics and beyond. And it could have wide-reaching ramifications far into the future. Did I mention there was hacking involved and potential espionage?
There are just so many angles to this story, and nearly everyone seems to have an opinion. Two of those we covered earlier in the week included Sarah’s take that Google’s actions were more about business (or a lack thereof) for the company in China. Paul, meanwhile, was quick to dampen the cheers from Silicon Valley that Google was doing the right thing, arguing they’re four years too late for this new stance to have any moral weight. Mike followed this up with a comment on the post, “The problem with un-censoring now is that it further reinforces that the decision was the wrong one from the beginning, and that they knew full well it was wrong even when they made it.” All of that rings true. But I disagree.
My position is a simple one that is twofold: it’s never too late to do the right thing. And it’s never wrong to do the right thing.
The people hooting and hollering immediately following Google’s post on the matter may have been being a bit naive about some of the causes behind this move, but that doesn’t make their immediate reaction that this is great news, any less true. Should Google have made concessions to China four years ago, veering off from their “don’t be evil” philosophy? No. But that’s easy to say when you’re not trying to run a company that grew from a project in a garage to a multi-billion dollar business with users all over the world and public shareholders looking at the bottom line.
Many accounts have Google’s initial China decision boiling down to CEO Eric Schmidt convincing co-founder Sergey Brin that it was the right thing to do for the business. Further, there was apparently talk that with a foothold in China, Google would be in a better position to change things from the outside in. That argument, along with point 8 in Google’s “Ten Things Philosophy” (The need for information crosses all borders), may have convinced him to cede points one (Focus on the user and all else will follow.), four (Democracy on the web works.), and six (You can make money without doing evil.) Without making the filtering concessions, Google simply would have never have been allowed to operate in China.
Obviously, the outside in approach to changing things didn’t work as well as Google may have hoped, but it may not have been a total disaster either. After all, while Google may not have had a strong foothold in the Chinese search market from an overall perspective, indications are that they did have a very solid hold of the better educated, young elite class in China. Those are the same users that are likely to one day be running some of the most powerful technology companies in the country. And they’re apparently not happy about the prospect of losing the ability to use Google. Are they going to overthrown the Communist government? Not likely. But they could add significant pressure in the push to open things up more.
The sad fact of the matter is that while Google may have wrongly bent to China, so too have many companies in the past. And those companies are still doing it. And many more will in the future. Google no longer is, and assuming they stick to their word, no longer will. Again, no matter the reason, and no matter the timing, that means something.
And it especially means something coming from a company as big and as powerful as Google. Rival Yahoo has already come out in support of Google’s new stance, and that’s despite their substantial ownership in the large Chinese Internet company Alibaba (which criticized Yahoo’s praise of Google). And so has no less than the White House. It’d be nice to see Microsoft come out in support as well (especially since their software is apparently to blame for the hacking), but they’re not doing that. But thanks to Google’s new stance on the matter, they’ll be criticized for it more than they would have been in the past. Google’s position may not hold the moral high ground, but it is shaking things up, and that matters more.
Also, I don’t care who you are or what your current market share is, it takes balls to walk away from China’s 1.3 billion potential customers and fast-moving economy.
With technology, and the Internet in particular, becoming more integral in all of our daily lives, this entire situation could be just a sliver of what’s to come. One blog post from one Internet company has ignited a debate that’s really one we should have never stopped having. And it’s now being played out in a type of information warfare ranging from China all the way to the White House (think it’s any coincidence that China restored text messaging service in Xinjiang today after some six months of blackouts).
Google did the right thing. And as long as they keep doing the right thing, the “why” will continue to matter less. And hopefully it will send the more important message to other companies: it’s never too late to do the right thing.

Google's rocky relationship with China may be coming to an end. In a dramatic post to Google's company blog yesterday afternoon, Google's chief legal officer David Drummond revealed that Google had been the victim of a ”highly sophisticated and targeted attack on corporate infrastructure originating from China.” Google claims to have evidence that the goal of this attack was to access the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists, although Google believes the hackers ”did not achieve that objective.”
Perhaps the scariest thing to come out of this for the American public is that Google's investigations into this attack, which is thought to have occurred in December, uncovered that at least twenty other large companies have fallen victim to similar attacks. The companies targeted included Internet, finance, media, and chemical companies, which of courses raises questions as to the security of US and international consumers' personal information, and, particularly in regards to attacks on chemical companies, raises safety and national security concerns as well. According to this report in the Washington Post, sources in Congress say other affected companies may include Adobe, Dow Chemical, and Northrop Grumman, a major US defense contractor–further raising alarm bells for US national security. The US response so far seems to reflect the gravity of the situation. The NSA is already involved in the investigations, and Secretary Clinton expressed ”serious concerns” in a statement, going on to say that ”We look to the Chinese government for an explanation.”
Google's investigations further revealed that the Gmail accounts of ”dozens” of US, Europe and China based human rights advocates have been ”routinely accessed by third parties,” although these security breaches appear to be the result of malware, not a direct breach of Google's systems. This will probably come as no surprise to human rights advocates; LRF has long suspected that the Chinese government or its proxies have been involved in attacks on our own website and network.
Interestingly, Google's immediate response is not to pull out of China, but rather to stop censoring the search results of Google.cn, Google's Chinese search engine. Google executives will begin talks with the Chinese government in the coming weeks to discuss how it can operate an uncensored search engine inside China and remain within the law. Google does not seem very optimistic that these talks will be fruitful however, saying they ”recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China.” BBC business editor Robert Peston warns that ”some Google shareholders… will see this as a commercial example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.” I certainly disagree; I think those who have been following Google's tumultuous relationship with China are instead wondering what has taken Google so long. Certainly the prospect of access to 304 million internet users in the China market was irresistible at first. That is precisely the reason Google, in the minds of free speech advocates and even many Google employees, ignored its motto ”Don't be evil” and agreed to censor its Chinese search engine, which launched in 2006. But since that time, Google has suffered numerous insults, including further censorship imposed by the government, and public denunciation by Chinese officials, accusing Google of not doing enough to block pornography on the Internet. Meanwhile Baidu, a Chinese search engine with a close relationship to the Chinese government, controls 60% of the market inside China, with Google.cn trailing behind with only a 31% share of the market.
Last week, the Wall Street Journal argued in an op-ed that the ongoing battle between Google, Baidu, and Beijing amounted to protectionism on the part of the Chinese government, and that Google, and other US companies blocked by the CCP's censorship regime such as Facebook and Twitter, should push for the US to bring a case against China before the WTO. According the Washington Post, Chinese dissident Ran Yunfei agrees, suggesting that rather than leaving China Google should pressure the Chinese regime through the WTO and the US government.
Perhaps one lesson to draw from these events involves the Global Network Initiative (GNI), a voluntary coalition of information and communications companies, academics and investors that is supposed to provide companies with guidelines for protecting freedom of speech and individual privacy while operating in repressive societies. If anything, this new development points to weaknesses in the GNI's model of voluntary participation with no enforcement mechanism. Google signed on to the Global Network Initiative in 2008, but it was an attack on Google's corporate infrastructure, rather than its commitments under GNI, that have led it to finally stop participating in the Chinese government's censorship regime.

You know… the Belly Love… No, really, you know the one I mean, don't you? Yeah, the sofa with the puffy glowing moving tentacles that release a fragrance while caressing your body which I heard is inspired by a soft coral found in the Indian Ocean that you probably saw when you were drooling one day after dinner watching old Costeau re-runs on your old sofa? Yes, your old sofa. This is… the new sofa, for, you know, doing it.
And now, let's put the stereo in love mode, sweet woman of mine. I feel the love right here, glowing in my heart… and in my pants… while I get with you… in the Belly Love.
